The Punjab government launched a comprehensive education reform program focusing on three critical areas of learning, access, equity and governance.
Prime Minister Usman Buzdar launched the “The New Deal 2018-2023” program at a Lahore ceremony. The New Deal is a multiple-reform program to restructure the idea of public education in the province.https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Provincial Education Minister Murad Raas was also present.
In his welcome speech, the minister emphasized the problems in the education system of the country in general and underlined the subsequent reforms adopted in Punjab for recovery.
He said that under the New Deal, Urdu will be the primary language of instruction, while English will be offered as a subject. In addition, compulsory education law will also be amended so that parents are responsible for the children’s schooling, he added.

The Minister said the government would review the teacher training modules to meet changing times. In addition, as with doctors and attorneys, standard accreditation for teacher licensing will be instituted.
He concluded that emphasis will be placed on building a culture of scientific learning and curiosity to help transitional students to secondary and higher education with solid technical knowledge and skills.

At the event, the chief minister said the New Deal would have a positive impact on the education sector of the province. He added that parents of children leaving school will not be able to use facilities such as Benazir’s health card and income support program.

CM Punjab also promised to improve teachers’ professional capacity and said that special training programs for teachers would be launched.
The trained teachers will have a higher level of qualification, he added.
In a prior notice, the PTI government in Punjab also banned public school teachers from taking private classes.
