Facebook has been in various scandals in recent years. Either scan their data for deletion, misuse of data or hidden privacy settings.
It had a pronounced effect on the social media giant’s user base. The report published by Edison Research shows a decline of 15 million users over the past year. While other social media platforms are constantly improving their user base, Facebook has seen a drastic decline. However, Facebook is still at the top of the list of most used social networks.
Facebook’s User Base Continues to Decline
According to the report, the largest decline among US users was between 12 and 34 years old. In 2017, the percentage of users older than 12 years was 67 percent, the surveys in 2018 showed a decrease of 5 percent, which is the percentage of users decreased to 62 percent. A few months later, this percentage was further reduced to 61 percent.
The fall was mostly seen among younger users. The percentage of users between the ages of 12 and 34 in 2017 was 79 percent, but decreased to 67 percent in 2018 and to 62 percent in 2019.
There is an increase in the use of Instagram among younger individuals. On the other hand, users over 55 years have seen the use of more Facebook in recent years.
Reasons for Leaving:-
None of the recordings shows why users are leaving Facebook because of scandals. Since the survey was conducted in the United States, the main reason why users are gone is not conclusive. The reason may be demographic, that is, users who leave the country or other reasons because Facebook listed its global base in its user base in its annual reports.
