The construction of the Mohmand dam will start today, with Prime Minister Imran Khan and former president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, holding the ceremony to begin construction on the location of the dam in the Mohmand district.

The dam will be built on the Swat River in 2024 and is expected to cost more than Rs. 183 billion. The dam will have a storage capacity of 1.2 million acre of water with a capacity of 800 MW and will be able to repair more than 17 000 hectares of currently dry land.
The dam will help solve the problem of water scarcity in the Mohmand district, as well as prevent future floods in the districts of Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will also use this opportunity to tour the Tirah Valley in the Khyber district.
