Pakistan has decided to build another site in Gwadar to support the country’s steel industry.
The decision was made in the context of the increase in maritime activities and the massive movement of ships in the port of Gwadar following the success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Pakistan Establish Another Shipyard in Gwadar
With all this in mind, Karachi site and engineering works (KSEW) have acquired land in Gwadar for the development of another site approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The new site will be built with the support of the Ministry of Defense of Production in conjunction with Balochistan’s government, reported on Monday to the managing director of KSEW, Admiral Ather Saleem.
He said the site was acquired in the Surnallah area of Gwadar.
We have earmarked the land at Surnallah, which will be developed under Joint Venture with reputed international shipyard/consortium.
Saleem added that work in the project office is underway. MD KSEW further said there are 23 large shipyards in India and 5 in Bangladesh compared to a single site in Pakistan.
He believed that the Karachi Port Trust and Bin Qasim Port should sponsor the inland shipping industry and buy the ships locally for their needs.
Ather Saleem emphasized that the maritime sector has great potential and revenue opportunities for investors and emphasizes the need for a public-private partnership in the industry.
