Yousaf Baig Mirza, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Media Affairs, will appoint the chairman of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV, his acronym in English). The case is expected to be discussed today, according to sources.
PM’s Special Assistant Will Be Appointed Chairman of PTV
Previously, Yousaf Baig Mirza related to PTV as MD (MD) in several governments. He completed his first quarter in 1999 after being appointed by former MP Nawaz Sharif. His second step was in 2007 when former President-General Pervez Musharraf published and last was in 2010 when former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani appointed MD.
This latest move could change the stalemate because both Yousaf and Arshad were in good standing with Prime Minister Imran Khan and could force relations between him and Fawad.
Since PTI came to power, the channel faced several crises due to the economic slowdown and the ongoing struggle between Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Arshad Khan, MD PTV.
According to sources, the Prime Minister has approved the appointment of Yousaf and now the Ministry of Information will approve to appoint as a member of the board, then the council will seek its appointment as president.
